Talking – Part 3

After the Haftorah on Shabbos morning, we recite three paragraphs – the first two beginning with Y’kum Purkan and the third beginning M’sh’barach. In the M’sh’barach, a blessing is given to certain people in the synagogue. One of them is auctioned off in many shuls on Simchas Torah: the person that provides wine for Kiddush and Havdalah. This is usually auctioned off for hundreds of dollars and sometimes even over a thousand dollars. Also, included in this same M’sh’barach blessing is a blessing for anyone that makes the shul a place to pray and comes to shul to pray. If people come to shul to talk, they are not included in this blessing, but if someone comes for the sole purpose to pray to G-d is included. This is an extremely precious blessing. Some people need to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to fulfill it. Others are much wiser and come to shul only to pray (not to socialize with their friends).
