Rabenu Yona points out in Pirkei Avos 1:2 that prayer is stronger than the karbonos (offerings brought in the Temple). The proof is Dovid HaMelech committed a sin that he could not bring a karbon for. But he was still able to pray. Therefore, our prayers are greater than the karbonos that used to be brought!
