Second Section – the Negative Commandments

99. It is a negative commandment “do not eat creeping creatures from the sea.”

As it states in Vayikra (Leviticus) 11:43, “do not make your souls detestable with any creeping creature.” Included in this law is creeping creatures that live in water, which are: frogs, crabs, and animals like them. Also, worms and leeches, sea animals, and sea dogs. One who eats an olive size amount of them receives lashes.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
