Second Section – the Negative Commandments

9. It is a negative commandment not to make an idol to worship it

As it states in Shemos (Exodus) 20:4, “Do not make an idol.” If one transgresses this, no matter if he made it on his own or someone else commanded him to make it, he is given lashes. If he made an idol on his own for himself, he is given lashes twice: once for this commandment, and the other for the commandment in Vayikra (Leviticus) 19:4, “Do not make gods of stone”.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
