Second Section – the Negative Commandments

69. It is a negative commandment “do not commit injustice in judgement”

As it states in Vayikra (Leviticus) 19:15, “you shall not commit injustice in judgement.” This means that a judge should not declare the guilty party innocent nor declare the innocent party guilty. Included in this law is that a judge is not allowed to delay his judgement after it is clear to him how he will be judging the case. If he delays on clear things in order to cause one of the litigants distress, then he is guilty of this law.
