Negative Commandment #162

Sefer Ha’mitzvos Ha’Katzar (The concise book of mitzvos) By the Chofetz Chaim

This book lists the Torah mitzvos that can be observed today

Second Section – the Negative Commandments

162. It is a negative commandment “do not put up a pillar anywhere at all”

as it states, “do not put up a pillar.” The term “pillar” means a building made of stone where people gather together. Even if it was made to serve G-d, it is forbidden because this is the way of idol worshippers. A person who transgresses this commandment and builds a pillar, even if it was built to serve G-d, receives lashes.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
