In order to fulfill the obligation of kiddush, one must mention the exodus from Egypt. The source of this Halacha is in this week’s Parsha. The passuk says, “remember the Shabbos and make it holy.” Another passuk, referring to yetzias Mitzrayim, mentions the same language, “in order to remember.” Utilizing the principle of g’zeira shava, Chaza”l connect these two ideas and teach us that one must mention the exodus from Mitzrayim during Kiddush.
