The next time you go to a sheva brochos, know that the source of the celebration it quite out of the ordinary. When Yaakov Avinu married Leah Imeinu, the passuk says, “Lavan gathered all the people of the city and made a celebration.” The Pirkei D’Rebbi Elizer states that he made sheva brochos, and this is the first source for our minhag to make such a celebration. It seems that the statement of Chaza”l to learn from everyone applies even to a rasha like Lavan.
