There are 39 types of work that are forbidden to perform on Shabbos. Chaza”l derive which actions are forbidden from a juxtaposition of psukim in Parahas Vayakhel. At the beginning of the Parshas Vayakhel the Torah discusses Shabbos and follows immediately with the building of the Mishkan. This teaches us that the work prohibited on Shabbos are the same actions which are required to build that Mishkan.
