Dvar Halacha On Parshat Beshalach 2012

When performing mitzvos, we must not do them in the cheapest, simplest way possible. Quite the opposite! The Gemara learns from the passuk in Shiras HaYam, “Zeh Keili V’Anveihu,” which means, “This is my G-d and I will beautify Him,” that was one honor the mitzvos by doing more than is required by the strict Halacha. The Gemara adds that the requirement is spend up to one third more than the cost of the simple mitzvah.
