The Midrash identifies the source of eight strings on our taleisim from a passuk in this week’s Parsha. The first seven strings correspond to the seven days that passed from Yetzias Mitzrayim until Klal Yisroel passed through the Yam Suf. The eighth string corresponds to the eighth day, in which Mitzrayim was drowned in the sea, as the passuk says, “And the Yam returned (to its natural state) in the morning (after Klal YIsroel passed through).”
