Chukat 6 15 2010

The Torah states, regarding Moshe and the water he brought forth from the rock, “And he gave the community to drink, and afterwards their animals.” The Medrash learns from here that one is permitted to drink, even before he has given his animals that he is responsible for to drink. The Sefer Chassidim brings this Midrash in contrast to the halachah that one is forbidden to eat as long as he has not yet fed his animals. This halachah only applies to food, but not to drink, as it says in the Medrash.
