At the end of Parshas Balak we learn the halachah of, “kanoim pogim bo,” meaning that if one sees a Jewish male living with a non-Jewish woman, a “kanoi,” meaning, “zealous one,” may kill him. However, the halachah also states that if the kanoi asks Beis Din if he should kill the man or not, they will tell him not to. The commentaries explain this seemingly odd halachah that if one asks, that means he is not a true kanoi. The kanoi that the Torah is speaking of is one whose automatic reflex action is to fight for the holiness of Hashem’s name.>>>>>
