This book lists the Torah mitzvos that can be observed today
Second Section – the Negative Commandments
1. It is a negative commandment not to eat the Gid Hanashe (sinew of the thigh)
As it states in Bereshis (Genesis) 32:33, “Therefore, the children of Israel should not eat the Gid Hanashe.” This applies to pure domesticated animals, undomesticated animals, and to an embryo – both to the right thigh and the left thigh. The two sinews are: the inside one next to the bone of the hip is forbidden from Torah law. The other inner sinews that are not connected to the hip socket, the whole upper sinew, the fat around the sinews, and the other sinews and their membranes are all forbidden according to Rabbinic law. A person that eats the Gid Hanashe from an animal that died without proper kosher slaughtering or from an animal that was mortally wounded transgresses two prohibitions (not to eat the Gid Hanashe and these types of animals). A person may derive benefit from the Gid Hanashe according to the Sages.
This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
