Second Section – the Negative Commandments

15. It is a negative commandment not to eat or drink from idol offerings

As it states in Shemos (Exodus) 34:12-15, “Beware, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land… he will call to you and you will eat his sacrifice.” Included in this is wine offered for idols. One is forbidden to derive pleasure from offerings to idols and wine libations to idols. A person that eats or drinks from these offerings or libations, no matter how small an amount, receives lashes. Wine not from a Jew but not used for idol worship either is also forbidden to derive pleasure from according to the law of the Sages. If a person drinks a revi’is amount of this wine, he receives Rabbinic lashes. It is also forbidden to derive pleasure from Jewish wine that has been touched by a non-Jew with intention. It is forbidden to eat from a non-Jew’s feast in honor of the wedding of his son or daughter. Even if the Jew eats his own food and a servant of his stands and serves him, it is forbidden.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
