Sefer Ha’mitzvos Ha’Katzar (The concise book of mitzvos)By the Chofetz Chaim
This book lists the Torah mitzvos that can be observed today
Second Section – the Negative Commandments
108. It is a negative commandment, “do not slaughter a kosher animal and its child on the same day.”
As it states in Vayikra (Leviticus) 22:28, “an ox or a sheep, it and its child you shall not slaughter on the same day.” If a person transgresses this and slaughters them, the meat is still kosher. For this mitzvah, the day comes after the night [the day is sunset to sunset]. Therefore, if a person slaughters the mother on Wednesday night, he should not slaughter its offspring on Thursday during the day. If he slaughters the mother at the end of the day of Wednesday, he can slaughter its offspring on Wednesday night.
This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
