Second Section – the Negative Commandments

104. It is a negative commandment “do not eat leavened bread (chametz) on the day before Passover after midday.”

As it states in Devarim (Deuteronomy) 16:3, “do not eat chametz on it.” This means do not eat chametz on the Paschal offering, which the time for its offering starts in the seventh hour of the day. One who eats chametz on the day before Passover after the sixth hour receives lashes. Our Sages of blessed memory forbade eating and benefiting from chametz from the beginning of the sixth hour. From the fifth hour, it is forbidden to eat chametz, but one is allowed to derive benefit from it.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
