Every Hebrew letter equals a number; this is called Gematria. When two words have the same Gematria, comparisons can sometimes be made between the two words. The word HaTevah, which means nature, has a Gematria of 86. The word Elokim, which is a name of G-d, also has a Gematria of 86. This is to teach us that everything that happens in the world that looks “natural”, comes from G-d. The blessing of Modim in Shemone Esray has 86 words in it. This is to teach us that we should be thankful for everything G-d gives us, even the “natural” things that happen every day.
