First Section – the Positive Commandments

37. It is a positive commandment to rest from work on Shemini Atzeres (the 8th day of the Assembly)

As it states in Vayikra (Leviticus) 23:36, “On the 8th Day it shall be holy.” The law for this day is the same as the first day of Passover (see Mitzvah #25).

This applies in all places and at all times for men and for women.
