Mitzvah #16
Sefer Ha’mitzvos Ha’Katzar (the concise book of mitzvos)
By the Chofetz Chaim
This book lists the Torah mitzvos that can be observed today
First Section – the Positive Commandments
16. It is a positive commandment for a person to attach himself to wise men and their students
As it says in Devarim (Deuteronomy) 10:20, “And to Him you shall cling.” Our Sages of blessed memory say (Kesubos 111b) Clinging to wise men is like clinging to Hashem’s presence. Therefore, a person should marry a daughter of a wise man and marry off his daughter to a wise man. He should eat with him and make him benefit from his wealth. He should sit at the dust of the feet of wise scholars and drink with thirst their words.
This commandment is required in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
