The foundation of our emunah, the passuk Shma Yisroel, is found in this week’s Parsha. The Halacha states that one must have the proper intention when saying the names of Hashem in the Shma. The Gaon of Vilna adds that although the kavanah of the name Hashem is enough if one thinks that He is the master of everything, during Krias Shma one must also have the intention of the writing of the name of Hashem, which connotes the He was, He is, and He always will be.
