The passuk tells is in this week’s Parsha that the candles of the menorah are an “eternal law for all the generations…” The Medrash raises the issue that this law cannot be eternal since the Bais HaMidash no longer stands. The Midrash answers that the candles that we are accustomed to light in our shul are a fulfillment of this mitzvah also.
