In this week’s Parsha, Hashem decrees that all of those who left Mitzrayim would pass away in the Midbar as a result of the sin of the meraglim. The midrash brings a proof from here that one should never curse themselves.
Earlier, Bnei Yisroel complained to Moshe, “You have taken us out of Mitzrayim to die in the desert!” Chazal tell us that their eventual punishment was a result of their earlier words.
