In this week’s Parsha, Parshas Naso, we learn about Birkas Cohanim. The common custom is for the tzibur to cover their eyes during Birkas Cohanim as to not see the hands of the Cohanim during the brocho. The reason for this is that the Gemara says that the Shechina descends on the hands of the Cohanim, and one who gazes at the Shechina loses his eye sight.
