The Gemara in Bava Basra states that brothers can inherit from each other. However, half brothers who are related only through their mother cannot inherit from each other. The sources of this is in this week’s Parsha in which the passuk calls the sons of Yaakov “brothers.” Chaza”l learn from here that just as all of Yosef’s brothers had the same father, so too people are only considered brothers as far as inheritance is concerned only if they have the same father.
