When discussing the purification process of the metzorah, the Torah specifies that his hands must be immersed in water. The medrash in Toras Kohanim points out that the Torah already says that his entire body must be immersed in water! The Medrash explains that this comes to teach us that only those parts of the body that are external like the hands need to be touched by the water. This excludes such areas like inside one’s mouth, his eyes, and other places deemed internal.
