The halachah states that one is permitted to make the necessary preparations for Shabbos on Erev Shabbos even before Shachris. Although, in general, all non-tefilah actions are prohibited before Shachris, Shabbos preparations are an exception. The source of this halachah is a Gemara is masechta Shabbos which quotes a passuk in this week’s Parsha, “It was on the sixth day and they prepared (for Shabbos) all that they brought.” Rav Chisda learns from here that as soon as the sixth day starts, on should start preparing for Shabbos.
