In the laws of ritual purity and impurity, something that grows from the ground is not subject to impurity unless first touched by a liquid. Chazal define the various substances that have the status of a liquid. From this week’s Parsha, Chazal bring a proof has the status as a liquid. Although metaphoric, Bilaam says that Klal Yisroel will “drink the blood of their enemies.” Since Bilaam refers to the ingestion of blood as drinking, this is a proof that it is considered a liquid.
