This week’s Parsha begins with the topic of Yefas To’ar, a beautiful woman whom a soldier sees in the heat of battle and desires her, in certain circumstances he can take her as a wife. Following that topic, the Torah says, “When a men will have two wives, one beloved and one hated he is not able to give the firstborn rights over to the belove one’s wife rather than the (real firstborn) son of the hated one.” . Immediately afterwards the Torah discusses the procedure of a Ben Sorer U’moreh, a rebellious son What is the connection between these 3 Mitzvos that they were placed in this order?
Our Sages explain that if a man marries this woman he saw while in battle, although it is permitted, he will end up hating her and will eventually bear a rebellious son through her!
On the flip side, in Parshas Shoftim the Torah seemingly randomly placed 3 Mitzvos together: Shiluach Hakain sending away the mother bird when taking its offspring, Maakeh building a fence on the roof of a house to prevent dangerous falls and Kilayim not crossbreeding grain with vines as well as Shatnez not wearing wool and linen together in one garment. Chazal explain that when one does the Mitzvah of sending away the mother bird he will merit to aquire a house and be able to fulfill the Mitzvah of putting up a fence on his roof. When he builds a fence, he will merit a vineyard and garments and be able to fulfill the Mitzvos pertaining to those items!
We see that every action we do creates an impact on our own lives (as well as on the entire universe)! It is not just a random act but it creates a reality and can either effect our future in a positive way or the opposite.
