Second Section – the Negative Commandments

170. It is a negative commandment “do not use the sorcery of Ov”

As it states in Vayikra (Leviticus) 19:31, “do not turn to the sorcery of Ov.” Ov is one who performs certain actions until another person hears someone speaking beneath the earth. It is also a person who takes a skull from a dead person and conjures with it to make a voice come from under his armpit that answers the other person. Both the person who requests this and the person who uses this sorcery transgress this prohibition.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
