Second Section – the Negative Commandments

97. It is a negative commandment “do not eat creeping creatures of the earth”

As it states in Vayikra (Leviticus) 11:41, “any creeping creature that creeps on the earth, you shall not eat.” The creeping creatures of the earth are: snakes, scorpions, beetles, and worms. A person that eats a complete living being receives lashes. If it is not complete, then if an olive size amount was eaten, he receives lashes. If different creeping creatures are eaten together, they combine to equal an olive size amount.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
