Halacha For Shmini Atzeres 9/29/2010

Due to the “sfeika d’yoma,” or doubt as to which day it truly is, the Shulchan Aruch poskens that we are required to eat in the Sukkah on Shmini Atzeres, which may actually be the seventh day of Sukkos. Nevertheless, since we do not make brachos unless we are clear about the requirement, we do not make the “leisheiv b’sukkah” blessing. On Simchas Torah we do not eat in the Sukkah because even if we are a day off, it would still be Shmini Atzeres, which would not require one to be in the sukkah.
